Portsmouth has a small but strong street art scene with a well-connected and inclusive range of both street artists and graffiti writers. Unlike many cities, the two scenes have mutual respect which helps promote a positive feeling in the city. A great range of curated walls across the city affords space for local, national, and international artists.
“Be it huge four-story walls or grimy back alleys, we’ve got it covered. There are a very diverse range of artists across the city with a strong mix of genres and ages. There are street poets, slap mad sticker artists, those that dip in and out of the scene and stalwarts who’ve been hitting the streets of the city for well over twenty years. We’re also hosts to lots of regular visitors who while not native of the city, do a lot of work here. It’s not unusual to see work from Pogo, Gary stranger, Korp, aroe, snub23, irony” says local street artist My Dogs Sighs.

Street Art Cities is a Belgian/Dutch collective that started 5 years ago in Heerlen (NL an Antwerp (BE) when 2 street art enthusiasts met and their shared passion was the cradle for the biggest street art community today!
They build an international platform, active in 900 cities and collecting over 35.000 artworks thanks to a dedicated hunter community. The popular Street Art Cities app (free to download on both IOS as Google Play) gives you the perfect tool to explore those cities, whether you check nearby artworks or follow and programmed route, you’ll be in for a surprise. And now Portsmouth is also available Over the recent years other street art players have joined like artists, galleries, festivals, street art organisations and more, building knowledge on urban art and it’s creators.
Street Art Cities is bridging the gap between artists, galleries and festivals, travellers and city administrations and local businesses. With these numbers the team took another challenge and want to bring quality content, they write articles for blogs and travel magazines, contribute to the well known Graffiti Art Magazine and are exclusive street art content providers for Apple Maps and with 2 million users they tap into a whole new audience. Together with local street artist Lissitch2019 they actually wrote the very first city guide on Apple Maps . So when you search for Portsmouth on Apple Maps, you can’t miss it. And a perfect start for the cultural change of the city.
