As part of the Portsmouth Open Studios 2024 (POSE) Dr Lighthouse invites you to experience Duration, an audiovisual installation remixing found video to take you on a journey through an audio-visual wormhole to question everything we know about reality.
Dr Lighthouse is a Southsea based AV artist and filmmaker who situates the audience experience in a multi-sensory domain employing aleatoric techniques and live remixing to juxtapose the didactic linear narrative practices of filmmaking with the polyphonic narrative of AV performance. The installation remixes found video with material from the German TV series Dark (2019) travelling through an audio-visual wormhole to question everything we know about reality. It explores how science measures time, while we experience time. It suggests that in experience there is no past, present, or future, only duration. It runs on a 20-minute loop so you can drop in any time to experience the installation.
AV Artist Dr Lighthouse will be at home to visitors for the whole of the POSE weekend. Drop by and experience Duration or check the website updates for a full programme of activities including live VJ jam, plus an Yaji salon with music and Chinese tea.

Mark your calendars for October 25th to 27th, 2024. During these dates, artists Yanan Pu and Dr Lighthouse will open their doors from 11 am to 5 pm, welcoming the public into their creative spaces.
YAJI (An Elegant Gathering) SATURDAY 26TH 14:00-15:30
From 2 pm we will welcome visitors to join us for a Yaji. In times gone by a Yaji would be a gathering of scholars and artists, often held in elegant settings, where participants engage in cultural activities like music, poetry, painting, and calligraphy to foster artistic and intellectual exchange. For our Yaji we will be serving a selection of high-quality Chinese teas to visitors. There will also be a Pipa performance by talented instrumentalist Yanan Pu. The Pipa is a traditional Chinese stringed instrument with a pear-shaped body, played by plucking and known for its expressive range and ancient heritage.
LIVE VJ JAM SATURDAY 26TH FROM 19:00 ONWARDS
VJ’s (it just means live visuals artists who improvise video art often to music) from the 1KP VJ Collective will be let loose in our living room for an evening of eye-watering and retina-burning live visuals. Bring your sunglasses!

What is POSE?
POSE is an open studio event where artists open their personal studios, homes, or other venues to the public. This allows visitors to not only view but also purchase original artwork directly from the creators. The event spans several days, giving artists ample time to engage with art lovers, share their creative processes, and build meaningful connections.
