Portsmouth’s twin city Duisburg, situated in Western Germany at the junction of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers, has put out a call to artists from our city. They are keen to add some colour to the grey concrete bridges along the A59 motorway that runs past the city. They want to connect with Portsmouth street artists and muralists who would be interested in contributing to this project.
The theme for the project is “Heimat”. Heimat is quite a global word in German covering many ideas, such as home; homeland or hometown etc…
You can follow the A59 through the city and you will see all the different bridges available by following this Google Maps link. You will get a sense of what is possible and why they want to brighten things up, you can also see some of the graffiti that other local artists have been doing alongside the motorway.
Right now, they are looking for expressions of interest so that they can identify artists to work with. There is an expectation that at a bare minimum, costs will be covered. Currently the offer is €600 but you can always negotiate depending on what you are planning.
