Thanks to a fantastic deal with Resolume, creators of the Avenue VJ software, young people in the city of Portsmouth have taken the creative challenge to become a VJ in a Day. By attending workshops in live video mixing with VJ artist MOWGLI they will learn the art of live visuals and well then showcase the results of their work; doing a VJ set at our showcase with live DJ’s and performers at this years PortsFest.
Check out the Resolume Avenue promo video if you want to get an idea of what these young people are going to learn to do.
Our first ever PortsFest event is a collaboration between Music Fusion, John Pounds Centre, The Lens Studio and one000plateaus. With additional sponsorship by software maker Resolume, we are setting a creative challenge to a group of young people to become a VJ in a Day. Well, actually there will be two days of workshops and the showcase so technically it is VJ in Three Days.
The hands-on practical workshops in live visual editing, mixing and performance will be led by experienced video artist VJ Mowgli who will be ably assisted by VJ Snow Globe and her understudy VJ Freymz. At the workshops, the young people will be taught how to create their own visuals and how to live mix them using Resolume Avenue software.
Then on the 1st July, they will be joined at the showcase event by DJs and MCs from local youth music charity Music Fusion. We are planning to rig projectors so that the young people can screen their visual live to an audience. This is the first time for an event like this in Portsmouth.
Though one000plateaus has been running VJ gigs and audio-visual events in Portsmouth since 2006 this is the first time we have been invited to teach other people how to live mix at a gig. So, we are very excited to see what the young people come up with.
We are also very proud to be working with Music Fusion, partly because one of the one000plateaus founders is closely involved with them, but generally because we think they are doing an amazing job and we have always been impressed by the skills and creativity of their young people. Music Fusion is all about inspiring young people to use their music as a platform for positive social action, and now they can do it with some astonishing live visuals.
Tickets are for the showcase on 1st July but booking is required and can be booked via the Portsfest website.
