Los Dave

The piece I have in mind describes a pattern of four entangled, abusive relationships; with oneself, between individuals and ultimately the State. The final release from this web of relationships is a self-initiated fall from grace. Perhaps a leap of faith? Pushed to the edge, having lost everything, where do you go? The four pieces are loaded with strong visual imagery and powerful emotional connections. Simple soundtracks connect the four as the narrative develops, the suffering of the protagonist broadens, and the atmosphere darkens. Ultimately, when you have literally nothing left to lose, you have everything to gain.

Matthew Poulter

I’m Matthew, I’ve been producing/composing ambient electronic music for 8 years now. I have a physical disability and as such I have learnt (and I am still learning) to adapt to my surroundings and how I form my sound over those 8 years, I always loved experimenting, going on a sonic exploration, letting my music guide me through the journey to places I had never ventured otherwise, the same goes for listening to music, in fact, I’m listening to Aphex Twin at the time of writing this bio. Music has helped me get through so much throughout my life so I’m very grateful to be part of this event.

Driven by a love of narrative sound, he enjoys working with discarded media, broken objects, lost artefacts, and hidden sounds. He finds his musical pallets in hidden radio sounds, sniffing for electromagnetic rhythms with old scanners, using children’s toys, tape loops, mechanical music boxes, hacked circuits and homemade aerials. His creative manipulation of their sonic qualities produces a richly textured soundscape that are interwoven with original field recordings and abstract electronic sounds from circuit-bent artefacts and DIY circuit design/programming to achieve unique sound collages.

The Speech Painter

The second in a series film poems “The Letters of Aina Tass” is written for a new show with the working title Displaced. It explores the entanglement of the refugee experience through two Latvians displaced by WW2. It tells the stories of Arvids Purs and Aina Tass, the former ended up living with our family, the latter only known through the letters she wrote, which I inherited wrapped in string in a thin see-through carrier bag.
